Play of Shades - Song about Vincent VanGogh

I wrote these lyrics for the song 'Play of Shades' based on the artist Vincent Van Gogh for the Voices of Babylon project (headed up by Alex Grata and Ed Unitsky). It is sung by UKs beautiful Lisa Fury and accompaniment on mandolin by UK’s multi-instrumentalist/singer Guy Manning.

The upcoming full collection is an art rock collaboration of many well known artists from around the world. The artwork has been done by the talented Ed Unitsky (featured here before).

Alex & Ed say of their project: The Voices Of Babylon trilogy is a “music card” message to the world. A message to people—of generations following us. A kaleidoscope of human destinies, a mosaic of characters, frank conversations of voices and instruments from different parts of the world, which intersect and overlap in time at the points of contact and flow through this New Babylon into the future..

And if you were able to visit the Van Gogh Alive in various locations across the world (including here in Australia) luck you! Vincent’s work was on display in an extra special multi media event that everyone said was breathtaking.

PLAY OF SHADES

(Lyrics by Cindy L Spear, music & arrangement by Alex Grata)

From this loom and earth’s brow
I see colours running freely
Paint of souls, ancient minds
Love is what you make it really

Summer dreams, ocean days
Swimming in the aqua splendor
Silver lines, milky-way
Learn the art of starry wonder

Then you will be my hero
My light in hidden danger
I will forget the raging fear;
For as the sun is rising
Across the wheaten shore
I catch a vision of your world

Days of Shine
Play of Shades

Tender shafts, rippling wind
Angel wings are passing through
Twilight soars, fading scars
Freeing shadows steeped in blue

Days of Shine
Play of Shades

And through your changing canvas
The anvil of your passion
Your sunflower heart will still be pure
