You know when you pick up a Leanne Lovegrove novel, it is going to be a gem. Each one I have read thus far provided wonderful surprises and enjoyable encounters. Her skill in crafting a great story never falters, whether she's delivering a full length novel or a 128 page novella like 'Love on the Sweeping Plains'. Shorter length does not mean lack of exploration of themes, underdeveloped characters or less captivating drama, for this novella is filled with everything a reader desires from start to finish: even a fun satisfying ending!

Relationship issues are at the heart of 'Love on the Sweeping Plains' but the challenges are met head on. There's the opening of old wounds, sparking of hidden desires and waking of old interests. Even the rekindling of less used abilities come to the foreground. This rural setting is well rooted and draws out the memories and magic of the past life of Tori Christensen. It also sets fire to her present and promising passions. After moving away for a number of years and pursuing a busy life in the city, she finds herself back in the country seeking peace at her nan’s B & B. Tori is hoping to get some order back into her shattered life after the betrayal of her husband: a trauma that brings an end to their marriage.

Upon Tori’s arrival in her hometown, she is in need of a Vet as her daughter’s pets have become ill on the journey. Stopping for help brings a chance meeting with an old flame, Zac Coleman. This encounter gets the ball rolling. It is the beginning of many new challenges that often expose her weaknesses but also offer a door to healing and love again. Surrounded by family and friends in a beautiful location, Tori’s restoration begins. And the vehicle Leanne uses is a reality tv show that stirs things up and brings out the hidden truth.

Tori and Zac are both likeable romantic characters. I enjoyed their journey. We not only get to know Tori quite well in a short space of time but we also learn a lot about Zac and his own past trials. Our hearts are sympathetic and we really desire to see this couple together for they seem well-matched and deserve a happy ending. Some would say you cannot go back and relive the past because everything changes. And yes it does but in fiction we can explore the possibilities of what if we did return home to the familiar and resurrect the once faded memories? Can we find new meaning and peace, have a fresh start in an old location? I think so and Leanne shows us how, through her characters, in 'Love on the Sweeping Plains' and that a second chance is all you need to get things right: even love.

A great read I highly recommend! 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
